Whitianga Stormwater Upgrade

GPR Survey Map

Whitianga Stormwater Upgrade

Ground Scan NZ was contracted by Thames-Coromandel District Council to carry out Utility Location & Mapping of underground services to facilitate the design of upgraded Stormwater Retention Systems around Cook Drive, Whitianga. The purpose was to facilitate the design of an upgraded stormwater retention system and capture all features that might impact future excavations. This was then added to the topographic survey to show a holistic representation of the current site.

Over the course of 3 days, the GSNZ team of Caleb Shanly and Geoff Painter, located approx. 4 kilometers of utilities (including, water, power, communications, storm/waste water and gas) along Cook Drive and Halligan Road and to over 40 individual dwellings! The use of EML (electro-magnetic locator), GPR (ground penetrating radar) and online maps was crucial to the success of the project, as the majority of the services were buried deep under hardstand areas and not able to be visually confirmed, as is our regular practise.

Following the locating, GPS survey interpretation onto AutoCAD drawings was created as part of a topographic survey and developed into a fully interactive services map for the Thames-Coromandel District Council.

This was one of the many great projects for the GSNZ team outside of the Waikato.
