Cambridge Road WM Upgrades

Cambridge Road WM Upgrades

Ground Scan NZ was engaged to provide a full utility and topographical investigation for future watermain upgrades along Cambridge Road in Tauranga. With a combination of road corridor scanning and localized surveying, our team delivered accurate and actionable data to support the client’s infrastructure planning.

To ensure safety and minimise disruption, we coordinated comprehensive traffic management across the full road corridor while undertaking a large-scale 3D Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) scan. This enabled us to accurately map subsurface services along the entire corridor, providing a clear picture of existing utilities in preparation for upcoming works.

In addition to the GPR investigation, we carried out detailed utility locating across the remaining road sections and the adjacent reservoir area. By combining detection and survey expertise, we ensured that all known and previously undocumented services were identified and accurately positioned.

Our scope also included a full topographical survey of the project area. This survey work captured precise surface features and elevations, allowing the client to integrate both utility and landform data into future design and planning processes.
All project outputs were delivered in multiple formats, including CAD DWG, survey-grade PDF plans, and a TIN surface in XML format. This comprehensive delivery ensures seamless integration into engineering workflows, while providing easy-to-use reference material for on-site teams.

Through careful planning, advanced 3D GPR technology, and precise survey methods, Ground Scan NZ provided a robust solution that combined safety, accuracy, and efficiency. The Cambridge Road project highlights our ability to manage complex corridor investigations and deliver high-quality data that directly supports the successful upgrade of critical water infrastructure.

Big thanks to our friends at TAG Traffic for providing the GSNZ team with Traffic Management solutions across this multi-day project.
